This week sees the arrival of the Carnival to the streets of Somerset. An amazing evening of entertainment that really should not be missed.
The massive Carts will make their way around the medieval streets of Wells this Friday, filling them with bright and dazzling light, music, dancing, beautiful costumes, all of which create a unique and exciting atmosphere.
There are two main categories, which include ‘Tableau’, where performers pose in a fixed position to depict a scene, effectively creating a living picture. One Carnival club to watch in this category is Huckyduck, they have created some amazing and prize winning entries in the past few years, one of our favourites was ‘In Flanders Fields’ from 2015, which was a WW1 themed tableau. It was truly amazing. Then there’s ‘Feature’, where the floats are huge, with lots of spinning and moving pieces, loud music, amazing costumes and great choreographed dance routines. Some of these floats even have smoke machines, fire cannons and snow machines.
The carnival is FREE to watch and all of the floats are created and built by enthusiasts who commit a huge amount of their spare time raising money for their respective Carnival Clubs and local Charities throughout the whole year. There are not many places you can go in this country for such a great night out with the family. Make sure you take plenty of loose change with you to donate to all of the charity collectors on the night and help support an amazing event.
You can see this amazing spectacle tonight Wednesday 15th November in Shepton Mallet, Friday 17th November in Wells and Saturday 18th November in Glastonbury.
