This week sees the arrival of the Carnival to the streets of Somerset. An amazing evening of entertainment that really should not be missed.

The massive Carts will make their way around the medieval streets of Wells this Friday, filling them with bright and dazzling light, music, dancing, beautiful costumes, all of which create a unique and exciting atmosphere.

There are two main categories, which include ‘Tableau’, where performers pose in a fixed position to depict a scene, effectively creating a living picture. One Carnival club to watch in this category is Huckyduck, they have created some amazing and prize winning entries in the past few years, one of our favourites was ‘In Flanders Fields’ from 2015, which was a WW1 themed tableau. It was truly amazing. Then there’s ‘Feature’, where the floats are huge, with lots of spinning and moving pieces, loud music, amazing costumes and great choreographed dance routines. Some of these floats even have smoke machines, fire cannons and snow machines.

The carnival is FREE to watch and all of the floats are created and built by enthusiasts who commit a huge amount of their spare time raising money for their respective Carnival Clubs and local Charities throughout the whole year. There are not many places you can go in this country for such a great night out with the family. Make sure you take plenty of loose change with you to donate to all of the charity collectors on the night and help support an amazing event.

You can see this amazing spectacle tonight Wednesday 15th November in Shepton Mallet, Friday 17th November in Wells and Saturday 18th November in Glastonbury.

With only a few more days until Bonfire Night, thoughts will be turning to organising you firework parties and planning what fireworks you will need to make the big night go off with a bang.

The first thing to consider is, how long do you want your display to last? How far will your spectators be away from the fireworks? How built up is the area? If you have a lot of houses around you, you may want to consider not using rockets, as the debrise is likely to land on someone elses home or land in their gardens. In this situation, we highly recommend multi-shot fireworks, which are aerial displays, but without the risk of any debrise falling. If you only have a small garden and spectators are going to be close by, your best bet would be to use ground fireworks such as Fountains and Catherine wheels. Whatever you decide, we stock a huge range of fireworks and we have something for all budgets and situation.

If you’re looking to host a party, why not suggest that everone bring along a firework? That way it keeps your costs down and you’re more than likely to have a great selection to set off. If we had to recommend fireworks for a party, we always suggest a good selection pack, some rockets, a fountain and a big Multi-shot for your finale piece. Oh and don’t forget the sparklers!!

I don’t think any firework party is complete with out some bangers!! The sausage variety anyway. You can’t beat a good hotdog on a cold winters night whilst watching the skys light up with beautiful explosions and colour.

Please look after yourselves at fireworks parties. If you are the one organising and lighting your fireworks, please remember not to drink alcohol, keep children far away from danger, Always keep a bucket of water close by, use safety fire lighting sticks and never try to relight a dud.

Lastly, don’t forget to protect your pets, as many dogs and cats are afraid of fireworks. Always shut them away in a quiet room and make them as comfortable and warm as possible. Why not try some calming aids such as Pet Remedy wipes and sprays. Made of natural ingredients, these products are a fantastic way to help your pets during stressful times, especially during the firework season.

Have a fantastic Bonfire Night, be safe and have fun.

What are the first words that come to mind when you hear the brand STIHL mentioned?.....Quality…..Reliable….Professional….Expensive…..Man tools?

Well, the first of these two words are very true and as a Stihl dealer for over 30 years, we would definitely agree. Stihl build quality machines, that as long as they are looked after and maintained, will go on and on for years.

As for just for professionals and Men, this is not at all true. Although Stihl produce a huge range of machines for the professional market, in recent years they have invested a huge amount of money and resources into the domestic market, especially with cordless power. Stihl have been designing and producing cordless machines for a number of years now.

First we saw the AP PRO range released, which was aimed at the large garden owner and professional market. With a range of nearly thirty different machines, including chainsaws, long reach hedge trimmers and now even a stone cutter. The battery technology is phenomenal, allowing you to power some machines for over three hours between charges. Powerful performance, long battery life and outstanding handling are essential when tackling more demanding gardening jobs. STIHL's professional cordless products offer quiet, emission free performance and are really useful in noise-sensitive areas.

Last year saw the introduction of the Compact Cordless range. Ideal for the domestic gardener with medium to large gardens. With six different machines to choose from, all with interchangeable batteries, now including the BRAND NEW Viking MA235 Lawnmower, as well as a choice of two chainsaws, and a leaf blower just to name a few. Each of the tools is lightweight, quiet and powerful.

Now, this is where things get really exciting!! This MONTH saw the release of the BRAND NEW Domestic Lithium-Ion range of cordless garden tools. Perfect for small gardens, this range includes a Hedge Trimmer, Grass Trimmer and now a fantastic little Leaf Blower. All with integrated rechargeable batteries and with fantastic running times. Whether you want to trim hedges, clear leaves or mow the lawn – with these quiet and lightweight garden helpers, they always have enough power. Now, here’s the best bit, all three machines in this range are priced at ONLY £99 with a 2 year warranty. That’s right, a STIHL Machine for ONLY £99.

No fuel costs, no service costs and no cord. Stihl Cordless Power….The Future.

This time next week, the roads around Wells, Glastonbury and Shepton Mallet will be crammed with visitors from all over the country heading to the WORLD FAMOUS ‘Glastonbury Festival’, for a weekend of fun and amazing musical entertainment from some of the biggest names in the music industry, including The Foo Fighters, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran and Radiohead just to name a few.

The biggest question people will be asking this close to the event is what is the weather going to do? Recent years have seen the festival being hit by days of rain, leading to flooded tents, muddy, boggy ground and of course the need for Wellies and waterproofs.

We’re sorry to say this, but as a company, we always have our fingers crossed for rain when it comes to Glastonbury, in the hope that many of the visitors passing our doors in Wells will stop by and stock up with boots and waterproof trousers and jackets. Unfortunately for us, looking at the long range weather forecast for next week and the Festival weekend, the weather is looking really good and the need for the usual Wellington boots looks unlikely.

However, in the words of The Boy Scouts, ‘BE PREPARED’! The weather is never a sure thing and things may change, so don’t leave it until you are onsite, where you will get stung by overpricing. Visit our Wells or Congresbury store before heading to Glastonbury and get yourself a pair of Wellies just in case. We have boots for all budgets, from basic Dunlop’s at £12.99 to a pair of Le Chameau’s, if you really want to look the part. With Wells’ largest range of boots to choose from and with plenty of stock at the moment and the bonus of on site parking, there is no better place to visit to purchase your boots.

We hope everyone visiting the Glastonbury Festival, locally and those of you visiting our wonderful county of Somerset, have an amazing weekend of music and sun or RAIN! Fingers Crossed ;-).

This June, we will be attending the English Country Garden Festival at The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens in Wells, Somerset from Friday 9th – Sunday 11th June.

This annual event was first launched by Alan Titchmarsh back in 2015, and is a celebration of the horticultural heritage held within the beautiful paradise of The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens.

Visitors will experience walks around the award winning gardens, which recently featured on BBC Gardener’s World, there will be live talks, stalls, demonstrations, refreshments, entertainment, top gardening personalities, and lots of other activities and inspirational ideas on how best to use and enjoy your gardens.

Tincknell Country Stores will be there with Stihl, the world renowned Garden and Forestry machine producer, who are one of the Primary Sponsors of this fantastic local event. We will be there with a fantastic display of Stihl’s amazing Cordless range of Garden Machinery, offering you expert advice and some great special offers.

We are especially excited to be using this event to launch the BRAND NEW Stihl Lithium Ion Cordless range of machines. This fantastic range comprises of a Hedge trimmer, Grass Trimmer and Leaf Blower. All these machines come with an integral rechargeable battery, perfect for small domestic gardens and they are priced at only £99!! I know, amazing, a Stihl machine for only £99, who’d of thought?

04 April 2017

Spring has sprung, the clocks have changed and so starts a very busy period in our stores. There are always a lot of things happening this time of year with the change in the seasons, our sales of logs and coal start to slow and compost sales begin to increase as everyone starts to head out into the garden to prepare for the summer. Lawn Mowers and Strimmers are dragged out from the back of the shed or garage and have their first run up of the season and in some cases refuse to start, no matter how many times you pull on that blasted cord!! Oh the joys of the petrol machines!!

We’re only into the first week of April and we’ve been flat out at our Wells store, the dreaded annual Stock Take has taken place, our workshops are full up with Ride-on Mowers and Brushcutters in for service and repair and we’ve started planning events that are fast approaching in our calendar.

The Easter weekend looks to be a busy one for our Wells store with a couple of in store events that are sure to get the kids EGGCITED!! We will be hosting an ‘Easter Chick Hatching Event’ where we hope to see lots of little baby chicks popping out to say hello to the world for the first time. This event is being supported by Brinsea Incubators, who are world renowned for designing a producing the best incubators available on the market, and the great thing is, they are a Somerset company based in Weston-Super-Mare.

We will also be hosting a ‘Berg Go-Kart Track Event’ on Good Friday and Easter Saturday at our Wells store. Bring the kids and BIG KIDS along between 10am and 4pm for a race around our huge inflatable track on one of our awesome Berg Pedal Go-Karts and help us raise money for a great local charity, Eady’s Journey.

Eady is a three year old little girl who suffers from a Rett-like Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is a severe disorder affecting development from an early age, restricting mobility, communication and especially hand use.
Eady's Journey was set up by Eady's parents Matt and Charly in 2012 to raise funds for the therapy and equipment Eady couldn't get via the NHS. Eady was born in 2011, the first born for Matt and Charly after what seemed a normal pregnancy. However the final weeks of the pregnancy and Eady's entry to the world wasn't so straight forward but it wasn't until Eady was 7 months old that doctors finally agreed with the worried parents that something was wrong. In January 2012 the young family were thrust into a world of hospitals, test, therapists and living with a severely disabled child. At this point Matt and Charly realised that this situation was serious and it couldn't be resolved on their own, so Eady's Journey was founded, a not for profit organisation raising funds solely to benefit Eady.

Lastly, the end of the month sees the preparation and start of our Show Season. Our first BIG show of the year will be ‘The North Somerset Show’ in Wraxell near Bristol Airport on Monday 1st May. Visit our stand where our Congresbury team will be on hand to offer their expert advice on Stihl and Viking machines and we’ll also be there with our Show Shop where you will find a huge selection of Farm and Country toys, poultry products and much more.
